Let’s do our bit for Children in Need. Come to school in non-uniform and bring any donation you can.
Year 5 will take part in a short production next week. Mr Forster’s class will perform on Monday 14th October at 2:30. Miss Petterson’s class will perform on Tuesday 15th October at 2:30. Parents are welcomed and encouraged. We can’t wait!
On Wednesday 9th October, Year 6 went to Beamish Museum to take part in an evacuee workshop. This helped bring their topic ‘A Child’s War’ to life as they witnessed first hand what it was like to be a child living in World War Two. All of year 6 behaved beautifully and did the school proud. Well done year 6 and keep up the hard work!
Year 4 love to read so much they went to South Stanley library to choose their very own books to have in school. All children were exceptionally behaved and did the school proud. Keep up the fantastic reading year 4!
Massive thanks to all the parents of our budding gardeners who came to help us plant some beautiful flowers in our new playground seating area. Thank you again to all the parents for your help with fundraising last year -you have made this possible! See the gallery for more amazing photos!
As the sun shone on Friday, Alan Toward kept our children active with some engaging sporting activities which have inspired our children to be more active! What a way to end the week.
The house captain elections took place recently at school. The children were split into their various house colours so that they could listen to the speeches of the potential house captains. After this, the children voted for their favourites. Here are our very proud House Captains and Vice House Captains for 2019 to 2020. Well done everyone!
Children loved exploring Roald Dahl poetry and performing to their class members as well as a themed school dinner. Check the school Facebook site for photos of the magical day.
South Stanley Junior School took part in our first football fixture this term against 3 other local schools. Our boys lost one match and drew the other two. Well done to all who played and let’s hope we have another successful season!
Last week we celebrated the second SLP Star Awards grand finale at the beautiful setting of South Causey Inn. It was an unforgettable evening that saw our four schools come together to celebrate the hard work and achievements of some of our SLP children.
Teachers nominations opened in April with well into the hundreds being received. After a lot of deliberation, Headteachers selected winners and runners up who were announced in school assemblies in May.
This year’s Star Awards; hosted by our very own ringmaster, saw guests being entertained by a stilt walker, fire juggler, bubbleologist and acrobat at the celebration carnival.
The 2019 SLP Star Awards were extra special as we welcomed the children and families from Bloemfontein Primary School. Having joined us in July 2018, this was the first time they participated in the initiative.
Holly, Bloemfontein Primary School’s Above & Beyond winner said,
“I had seen the Star Awards last year and they looked amazing so everyone at school was really excited when we found out they were happening again, and we were taking part.
To be nominated and win was really exciting but tonight has just been amazing. I never expected it to be a real carnival with stilt walkers! I’ve had the best night ever.”
Enrichment opportunities such as the SLP Star Awards could not happen without the support of local businesses and Stanley Town Council. It is their financial contribution that allow us to make such projects so aspirational and engaging for all our children.
Cllr Les Timbey, Leader of Stanley Town Council said,
“Stanley Town Council are delighted to be able to be involved in the SLP Star Awards for a second year.
We know how hard all SLP children work, their determination and resilience is evident on a day to day basis. This initiative allows their teachers to acknowledge their efforts and celebrate together.
SLP offers their children some unique and inspirational enrichment opportunities and we as a town council, are honored to support them.”
Whilst the grand finale celebrates our first-place winners, it is only fitting that we congratulate all SLP children. Each and every one of them is a star in their own right and if we could have celebrated with everyone, we most certainly would have. Well done for a fantastic year and we look forward to celebrating next year at the 2020 SLP Star Awards!
