Class 5F & 5H

Welcome to Classes 5F & 5 H

Our 5F class teacher is Mrs Fairburn & our 5H class teacher is Mr Huggins.

We have changed our approach to homework this year and hope you and your child really enjoy completing the tasks together.  We would appreciate your help in ensuring your child takes care of their learning journal and also in encouraging them to “Go for Gold!” Learning journals should be handed in on a Tuesday and will be given back out on Thursday.

As well as completing activities from the homework grid, please help your child to read with you or someone in their family at least three times a week. Even good readers benefit from time sharing a book together and talking about their reading. And…it’s great fun!

One of our key priorities this year is to improve our approach to teaching spelling. Your child will bring a list of spellings home every Thursday which they should learn for the following Tuesday. A good way to learn spellings is to look carefully at the word, saying it out loud while thinking about the letters which make up the sounds in the word. They should then cover the word and have a go at writing it. They then check the word and think about where they might have made any mistakes. Keep doing this until they can spell the word correctly without thinking. Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check.

For your information – PE lessons are every Wednesday and we go swimming on a Friday. Pupils will need to ensure they have appropriate footwear on these days.
