We recognise that transitions can be difficult for a child with SEND and take steps to ensure that any transition is as smooth as possible.
How we will support children with SEND when they are moving on to another class or leaving this school:
Transition to Different Year Groups
Transition for each year group takes place within the Summer term where children spend time with their new teacher in their new classroom environment. This allows both teacher and child to get to know each other and provides opportunities to identify individual strengths and development needs. Teachers and SENCO will work very closely together to ensure that this transition is as smooth as possible.
Transition to South Stanley Junior School
We know how important it is to you and your child to feel that their new school understands their needs. We also recognise the importance of you and your child getting to know the staff in the new school and their new learning environment.
We, therefore, work closely with other schools to get to know your pupil and make sure they know us, before they arrive for their first day. We will speak to the SENCO in their previous school to ensure we understand their needs and will attend their final review. Your child will also have an opportunity to visit our school to look around and come to transition days where they will work with their new teacher.
Transition from South Stanley Junior School to another school
We work closely with the SENCO and staff in the school your child will move to in order to ensure they understand their needs fully. Your child will visit the school to look around and will also go to some lessons there. Staff from the receiving school will also come to work with your child and their friends in our school.
If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
